
India loses 3-4% of GDP to corrosion
The growth of India's Maintenance and Service industry is directly linked to growth in its manufacturing industry. While manufacturing is a positive contribution to the country's GDP, maintenance has always been an added cost, which best could be minimised, if not avoided completely. It was in this context that a three-day conference-cum-exhibition was organised, starting August 4, 2010 at the NSIC Exhibition Complex, Okhla Industrial Estate, New Delhi. While speaking on the occasion, Arun Yadav, Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, said while all of us are concerned about GDP growth rate predictions going down by one or two per cent, the country loses about 3-4% of GDP due to corrosion every year which translates to a staggering figure of over Rs 2 lakh crores per
